God is so good

Jars Of Clay: Jonah – “God, You’re So Good!” When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened. – Jonah 3:10 (NLT) This past Sunday we sang a song in church that I love called, “God, You’re So Good.” The first verse and chorus are: “Amazing love, that welcomes me. The kindness of mercy that bought with blood, wholeheartedly, my soul undeserving. God you’re so good, God you’re so good, God you’re so good, You’re so good to me!” Can you resonate with that? Our God is a GOOD God! What’s sad is how many people don’t see God that way. They see God as an angry God. Or they see Him as an indifferent God. Or they see Him as a judgmental God. Some feel as if God wants to just make their lives miserable or that He’s a stern God who loves to dole out punishment and retribution. But look at our passage for today. Nineveh was a wicked city that had been evil for a LONG time. They DESERVED judgment. They DESERVED punishment. They DESERVED to suffer for all the suffering they had caused. But God in His mercy warned them, and the moment they repented and turned away from their sin, He forgave them for what they had done and gave them GRACE instead of judgment. Why? Because He is a GOOD God! Let that thought possess your mind today. As you pray, remember that you’re talking to a God who loves to bless you, loves to forgive you, and loves to be with you. He’s not far away. He’s not angry or upset. And He’s not out to get you. He’s a GOOD God who longs for your best and wants to see you live the life you were created to live. Trust me, any God who wanted to bless Nineveh after all they did is a GOOD God who wants to shower mercy and goodness on YOU! That’s God’s Word for you today.
