Amazing Love

1 John 3:1 NKJV Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! When the war with Iraq began we were treated to what the military called shock and awe! They said the fire power that was unleashed on Baghdad would literally take our breath away. They were right. The skies were aglow with bombs exploding. As we witnessed that onslaught all we could say was WOW! Did you see that! Behold is a biblical sounding word that means WOW! Did you see that! John is saying the love of God is more spectacular than anything that has ever been seen before. The Holy Spirit led John to a glimpse of the love of God. As John took inventory of his life compared against the sacrifice of Jesus Christ all he could say was there has never been anything like this. (MESSAGE) Romans 5:6 Christ arrives right on time to make this (hope) happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway. 7 We can understand someone dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. 8 But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to him. If we will spend just a few minutes trying wrap our minds around this kind of love we will soon come to the realization that all we can say is WOW! I’ve never seen anything like this before. Why would God the creator of the universe love us in this manner? We will never be able to fully answer the question of why. The best explanation we get from scripture in teaching us that God is love. It is who He is. It is His very nature and being to love us. God desired to love so He created us. Anyone can show love to someone who is perfect in every way. Anyone can show love to someone who always returns that love. But God who wanted to demonstrate His kind of love created us imperfect and unloving so that He could show that He still loves us. Though we can never explain or understand this love we can receive it. WOW!
