Great men of God

Is Being Great Biblical

Hopefully by now you’re convinced that it’s possible for a Christian man to be great. How would the bible describe what it means to be a great man of God? As followers of Christ there is one reason we are still here on earth after becoming Christians. Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. There are good works, or a mission, that God has prepared for each of us. God did not hear our prayer of salvation then say to Himself “Well that man just got saved. Let’s figure out what he can do for the kingdom.” God prepared a great kingdom work for you and me even before we knew Him. To be great means to accomplish that kingdom work God has prepared for us. You and I can be great in the Lord when accomplishing all that He has for us. We might become great in God’s kingdom without anyone knowing our name. There is no greater accomplishment in life than waking up each day knowing you’re in God’s will for your life. Let’s revisit our text from last time. 1 Co 9:24-25 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain [it]. And everyone who competes [for the prize] is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a perishable crown, but we [for] an imperishable [crown]. In any sport or other endeavor of life to obtain the prize means to win. By definition if we win then someone or something has lost. If we got the promotion then someone else didn’t. If we get the trophy then someone else didn’t. So we have to ask ourselves about being great in the things of God. If we win then who or what has lost? Our fight and struggle for greatness is not a battle against other churches, ministries or men. Our battle isn’t against flesh and blood. As men our battle is against the enemy of our families, churches and country. 1 Jo 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. The works of the devil brought death and destruction to humankind. When Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected He destroyed the works of the devil. Jesus won the victory. When we shine the light on the victory of Jesus Christ the enemy loses. When we are great the devil loses. When the enemy loses our families, our churches and our country wins. That’s what happens when men are great. To paraphrase Dr. Tony Evans if you want a great country, you need great states. If you want a great state you need great cities. If you want great cities you need great churches. If you want great churches you need great families. If you want great families you need great men. God has built into our male DNA the need, desire and ability to be great.

Right Next Step

Review in the past few weeks in your heart. How many battles have you won against the devil? Is it possible you’ve been spending too much time and energy fighting the wrong enemy? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the ways in which the enemy is fighting you and how you can have victory. 1 Jo 4:4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
